In cosmetic applications, botulinum toxin is considered safe and effective for reduction of facial wrinkles, especially in the uppermost third of the face. Injection of botulinum toxin into the muscles under facial wrinkles causes relaxation of those muscles, resulting in the smoothing of the overlying skin.

Smoothing of wrinkles is usually visible three days after treatment and is maximally visible two weeks following injection. The treated muscles gradually regain function, and generally return to their former appearance three to four months after treatment. Muscles can be treated repeatedly to maintain the smoothed appearance.

Botulinum toxin is also used to treat disorders of hyperactive nerves including excessive sweating, neuropathic pain, and some allergy symptoms. In addition to these uses, botulinum toxin is being evaluated for use in treating chronic pain.

Nefertiti (Neck) Lift

Named after Nefertiti, the Egyptian Queen, whose neckline is iconic in the world of non-surgical aesthetics. The Nefertiti lift uses Botulinium Toxin, injected into the Platysma muscle which spreads up the neck to the jaw. The Platysma muscle, over time, will separate into rope-like bands with irregular tension which can result in wrinkly skin, known as ‘Turkey Neck’. This muscle can also be responsible for double chins.

This 15 minute procedure, with multiple small injections, causes the Platysma muscle to relax into its original state. This then allows the skin to tighten around the neck and jaw line giving an all over tighter, firmer, smoother looking skin. The Nefertiti Neck Lift has a 10% to 15% lifting effect of the neck and jaw line. It takes only 14 days to take effect and can last up to 4 months without any further procedures being required. The lift can even prevent the appearance of sagging skin and wrinkles before they appear.
